Shinerama!

Hey zombies! Hope you saw us on the news. WE WERE AMAZING!

As most of you know, this year at TTW OTTAWA we were attempting to benefit Shinerama- a part of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Every year, faculties and departments at the University of Ottawa join the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa’s philanthropic initiative, Shinerama. Shinerama is a nation wide initiative to raise money for people affected by cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians.

CF is a multi-organ disease affecting primarily the lungs and the digestive system. In the lungs, CF causes severe breathing problems. A build-up of thick mucus makes it difficult to clear bacteria and leads to cycles of infection and inflammation. In the digestive tract, CF makes it extremely difficult to digest and absorb adequate nutrients from food.

Learn the Dance!

Have you ever wanted to be a dancing zombie? Of course you have. Don't lie to me, I've seen the longing in your eyes when you watch Thriller videos on youtube, and the excitement everytime you hear someone shambling up the street. Wait no more! Learn the dance and prepare!

Come October, Merissa Tse (the leader for the Ottawa event at the University of Ottawa) will be teaching workshops during the weekends that are open to all UOttawa students, as well as anyone else who wishes to learn to dance thriller. She is planning on these workshops to be free, so anyone can join and learn the dance in time to participate in Thrill the World 2008.

Merissa is also available for private bookings anywhere in Ottawa. This means that if you have a group of friends or co-workers who would like to learn the dance, you can book your very own Thriller Dance Instructor to come out to your own gym or other venue and teach you during an evening or weekend! Daytime lessons can also be requested, and will depend on Merissa's class schedule. Hopefully we'll be able to keep these free as well, provided you plan on participating in Thrill the World!

In the meanwhile, you can also learn the dance online or prepare for your workshop by reviewing the videos! These are available on youtube.

You can also find the dance script with handy words to help you remember your moves here:

AND audio tracks with different speeds (ridiculously slow, slow, normal pace) WITH cueing here:

Welcome!

On Saturday October 25th, 2008 at 2pm EST, thousands of people from all over the globe will unite in a simultaneous dance of Michael Jackson's Thriller dance in the 2nd Annual Thrill the World event!

This is a group for Thriller enthusiasts, TTW participants, volunteer staff, and supporters. Invite your friends!

We will be attempting a Guinness World Record for the Largest Worldwide Simultaneous Dance of Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Last year, on October 27th, 2007, thousands of dancing zombies in over 100 cities, on 6 continents, learnt the Thriller dance and performed it at the same time, all over the world.

Why?

We see communities uniting globally in the fun and joy of dance. We are up to revolutionizing how people relate to dance and how they view their ability to dance. We have created a way of teaching the Thriller dance that is accessible to everyone. As an organization, Thrill The World is a team of people who are responsible for making sure that an opportunity to take part in a Thrill The World event is available to everyone, transcending borders, languages and abilities.

We believe that:

Anyone can dance Thriller. Since the start of TTW, people of all ages, sizes, backgrounds and levels of experience have been able to learn the dance. Even people who had never danced a day in their life!
