Thrill the World: Ottawa 2009: hooray!

Hey guys! Thrill the World: Ottawa has a new website- www.thrilltheworldottawa.weebly.com (this will be changed to www.thrilltheworldottawa.com once we purchase the domain!) The next few updates from TTW:O will also be posted here for a smooth transition, but please mark down our new website for future reference- you will be able to find information MUCH more easily as well as we have a spiffy gallery in the works, media links, a youtube gallery and much more!

If anyone has experience with html and css, it would be very helpful if you could contact me- I want the Thrill the World: Ottawa website to be fully customized but unfortunately do not have the time or level of coding skills that would take. However, to keep ourselves professional we will be purchasing the ttw:o domain.

TTW: Ottawa wants to thank everyone who helped make this year's Thrill the World a HUGE success! Ottawa's TTW numbers TRIPLED in size and Thrill the World numbers jumped from 4179 zombies in 2008 to an amazing approximate 23,000 simultaneously dancing zombies!

Merissa Tse, Thrill the World: Ottawa coordinator wants to thank everyone for all their hard work and determination- she could not have done it without each and every zombie that participated, danced, got excited and helped her reach her goal of continuing Thrill the World: Ottawa for another very successful year!

We hope you had a great time- please check back for updates on certificates, more media links, photos from our photographers and videos too! Also keep an eye on the official Thrill the World website for news too!

We can't wait to get ready for next year- starting with a new Thrill the World: Ottawa website! SEE YOU IN 2010, ZOMBIES!

Final Location

While trying our best to secure the Byward Market as our venue for the event, it is proving difficult- what's more, the weather forecast is calling for rain on Saturday. a LOT of rain. Yes, I know this sucks.

We are still trying to find a public venue on such short notice, but it's most likely that Thrill the World: Ottawa will be held on uOttawa campus, in the Terminus outside the campus bar, 1848. At least we will have an audience!

Final Tips

While getting ready with your zombie costume, read the following zombie costume guide to help you!

After all is said and done, zombies need nourishment. We plan to shamble down to the Market afterwards and PARTY! ZOMBIE STYLE!

Thursday Workshop Locations + Big Day Info!

Dear Zombielings!

ONLY TEN DAYS! It's exciting!! The TTW Ottawa team has been working very hard to keep things running smoothly for the big day, and so far, everything is on track!

Thursday workshops are being held in the Agora Square of the University Centre at uOttawa (near the Pivik!) It's a nice, central location for our workshops, and as a recap we have three more:

  • Thursday, October 15th @ Agora Square, uOttawa Uni Centre @ 6pm
  • Saturday, October 17th @ Montpetit Dance Studio, uOttawa @ 1pm
  • Thursday, October 22nd @Agora Square, uOttawa Uni Centre @ 6pm

Technically, we do have another space booked for our final thursday workshop, but as it's difficult to find, especially for non-uOttawa students, we will be meeting in the Agora Square FIRST and then moving to the room.

Please bring as many friends as possible, and don't be shy! We need all the support we can get if TTW: Ottawa is going to be a great success this year. And we really mean it about not being shy- one of our dance instructors last week spent ten minutes sitting around staring at people before someone approached her!

Quick Updates!

Hello, my little zombielings!

Sorry for the long silence. Thrill the World: Ottawa 2009 is still in the works, don't worry. Here are your updates!

1. As we are waiting on funding to book our venues, workshop dates are an OUTLINE ONLY. Solid workshop dates will be posted hopefully by next week, once our paperwork is in!

2. As some of you may have heard, Thrill the World had planned on running the Ottawa Zombie walk this year. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. The reigns are being taken over by someone else. The zombie walk is not being run by TTW, though we do support our fellow zombie lovers. Their dates for the walk is the 25th- one day after TTW. While it will be a fight for media coverage, perhaps we can all show up and do a flash mob at the walk! More details to come.

3. We're in luck! This year, TTW: Ottawa is going to be bigger, badder, faster, and better than ever before. The University of Ottawa clubs services have kindly supplied us with funding and many other resources this year. Hooray! Posters and flyers are in the works- we will need help posting these all over town, so let me know if you would like to help out with promotions by taking some posters and putting them up anywhere people will see them!

Rawr! Texan Braaaaaaaaains.

Hey Ghouls and Boils!

A special hello from Austin, Texas! Yes, that's right, your own TTW: Ottawa leader is deep in the heart of Texas, and blogging about it! Did you know that the Austin, Texas Thrill the World group had over 800 zombies dance Thriller for TTW in 2008? It was one of the biggest events in TTW history. I'm hoping to get in touch with the Thrill the Worlders in Austin before I leave to the second part of my USA tour so we can talk zombie. (grrrrh. mmmh. grrrrrrrm. nom.)

Thrill the World is Getting closer and closer!

So here are your updates:

  • At the moment, we have 180+ events in 25 countries!
  • the facebook group will be updated
  • TWO new facebook groups involving TTW will be up and running in the next few hours - A flashmob group (for those interested in doing flashmobs around the city to get ready for the event!) and a SURPRISE GROUP! (I wonder what it is...)
  • We have tentative dates for workshop/classes (venue TBA)
FLASHMOB GROUP!

The Thrill the World: Ottawa team is going to be holding awesomeawesome flashmobs this year to get our zombies ready for the main event (and to recruit new zombies!) A new facebook group will be created today for this. To make sure our flash mobs still have the element of surprise, the group will be slightly secretive and you'll have to join up to get details of when and where everyone is supposed to meet up, as well as when classes (special for flashmob zombies!) will be held in early september. Of course, our mobs will take place in high traffic areas for the biggest effect (without causing a problem for people. We are considerate zombies. Nom.)

SUPER SECRET ZOMBIE PROJECT
(
or maybe just kind of secret seeing as I'm about to spill the brains)

Last week, a little birdie flew by to tell me that the Ottawa Zombie Walk isn't happening this year. What a shame! Then the little birdie conned TTW into hosting it. Yes, that's right. Not only will there be TTW this year, but TTW: Ottawa will also be the puppetmasters of the Ottawa Zombie Walk! More details to come soon, but expect our flashmobs to be present and it to be an awesome time. What better place to recruit dancing zombies than a group of already-shambling ones? Hooray!

Tentative Thriller Workshop Dates!

Because we want everyone to be able to participate, classes have been scheduled either on weekend afternoons, or after 6pm on weeknights. If you have a group of people (more than ten, perhaps) wishing to participate who need to learn the dance, private classes can also be arranged for a small fee.

Thrill the World Ottawa 2009: Get Ready to Shamble!

Hello, my little zombielings!

Thrill the World Ottawa: 2009 is on its way! Thrill the World leaders from all over the globe are registering more events everyday, even four months before the event! 50 events have already been added to this year's official event list.

"Well that's all well and good," you say, "but what about Ottawa? What kind of delicious brains are there to eat? What kind of awesome events are there at which I can find more brains? Is there a two brain per zombie limit?"

This, of course, is ridiculous, as we all know that brains are plentiful in Ottawa, and we here at Thrill the World: Ottawa have always stood firmly by our eat-all-you-can-catch brain policy. Of course, there is a two tin can per zombie limit, as we are not goats.

At least, we think we are not goats.

As for the coming months, there will be several fun zombie-friendly events that Thrill the World: Ottawa will be hosting this year, as well as several events that we will be participating in and appearing at! They include:

  • Thriller flash mobs!
  • A TTW-style night on the town (Rocky Horror at the Mayfair!)
  • TTW @ the Ottawa Zombie walk!
  • free Thriller dance classes @ the University of Ottawa!
and of course, THRILL THE WORLD 2009!

Just like last year, Thrill the World: Ottawa will be holding free Thriller dance workshops (small donations will be accepted to go towards venue costs, posters, etc) in September and October. They will be held in the dance studio at the University of Ottawa. These classes are open to the public, so don't be afraid! Thriller is an exceptionally easy dance to learn and remember, and classes are taught to appeal to dancers of all skill levels, from those with two left feet to those who've been moon-walking their way to school since they were a kid. Whether you're a TTW newbie or just looking to brush up on your moves, drop by and have some fun! Dates to be announced.

As always, if you're interested in joining the Thrill the World: Ottawa staff team, send an email to ttw09Ottawacapital@gmail.com!

Your Dancing Undead,
Thrill the World: Ottawa
